About Waterwatch Education Trust
Waterwatch Education Trust aims to: 1. - Deliver, free of charge, outdoor education and training programmes to schools and community groups on the topics of water quality, freshwater ecosystems, sustainable land use and contemporary water issues; 2. - To assist other regions to set up educational programmes for schools and community groups to deliver the programmes set out in Aim 1. 3. - To cooperate with other environmentally-involved organisations in initiatives and activities that promote Aim 1.
Waterwatch engages participants from schools and community groups in hands-on tasks using a wide range of scientific equipment to monitor the physical, chemical and biological status of streams, rivers and lakes in their locality. Involvement with Waterwatch provides a heightened awareness of current environmental issues in New Zealand, in particular the issues associated with water quality and quantity, and environmental threats.
