The Waitomo Catchment Trust Board is a community-led initiative focused on protecting the unique karst landscape and waterways of the Waitomo Catchment area, particularly in the context of the fragile caves and their surrounding environment. This trust is part of a broader effort, including the Waitomo Catchment Scheme which involves local landowners, community members, mana whenua, tourism operators including Discover Waitomo, Waikato Regional Council, QEII National Trust, Department of Conservation, New Zealand Speleological Society, and Waitomo District Council to address issues like land degradation, karst environment degradation, water quality, and erosion.
