To provide whanau Maori with opportunity to reduce violence within the whanau in the first instance and second to stop violence from continuing in to our future. To do this we provide education and awareness from a Maori world view of the issues of violence and abuse by increasing their understanding of who they are as Maori and creating a Maori forum for them to openly discuss those things that affect their health and wellbeing and that have impacted on their ability to live a life free from violence and abuse. Our purpose is to, through kaupapa Maori practises, educate, support, facilitate and advocate their needs to their conclusions. We also offer Korero Awhina; counselling and therapy as part of our service provision and engage other Maori specialist where needed. Tu Wahine Trust is one of very few Funded Kaupapa Maori services providing access for Maori to Maori by Maori services in the Family and Sexual Harm sectors.
