The purposes of the Charitable Trust is to provide educational & other benefits to public of Mid-Canterbury and the rest of New Zealand by opening all property of the Trust to the public. The Charitable Trust intends to not only retain but to develop the Trust Property for: (a) educating the community about horticultural practices, the nutritional value of garden produce & sustainable garden practices (b) promoting waste minimization & providing educational opportunities around ecologically sustainable horticultural practices (c) enhancing cultural understanding by providing centred community events & education (d) providing quality produce for distribution to the local community and through school-based programmes (e) providing horticulturally based training as part of vocational & educational programmes (f) enhancing wellbeing through the provision of therapy-based programmes & activities (g) providing opportunities for volunteering enhancing social connections, health & wellbeing
