About The New Zealand Hen Welfare Trust
The charitable objects of the Trust are:
• To prevent cruelty to, and protect the welfare of, hens in commercial farming systems throughout New Zealand;
• To save hens specifically bred for commercial purposes from cruelty and abuse in commercial farms throughout New Zealand;
• To provide a permanent place of refuge for hens which no longer have any commercial use and are unproductive for commercial farming purposes;
• To raise public awareness of the plight of hens in commercial farming systems;
• To promote awareness and facilitate education in relation to alternative and non-abusive chicken farming practices in commercial farming systems in New Zealand;
• to co-operate, assist, and enter into projects or programmes with other animal welfare organisations to alleviate the suffering of commercially farmed hens in New Zealand; and
• to do all other things which are charitable under the laws of New Zealand.
