About The Friends of Mangarakau Swamp Incorporated

Mangarakau Swamp is the largest remaining wetland in the Nelson Marlborough region and is on the Dept. of Conservation register of nationally important wetlands supporting a diverse range of vegetation communities and birds and fish. The Friends of Mangarakau Swamp are the management group driving towards Ramsar status for the swamp to have it internationally recognised. Our objectives are to promote and assist the restoration and protection of the swamp in its natural state: to foster and assist public understanding, enjoyment and support for the swamp: to provide practical management and undertake such schemes and projects as the members decide.
