About The Edith Collier Trust

The Edith Collier Trust "The Trust" was established to take custody and control of a collection of art works and archive material, "the collection", created by the late Edith Collier, a local and national recognised artist. The collection was bequeathed to Edith's late niece, Barbara Stewart, by Edith's sister Dorothy Collier. Upon the receipt of the collection materials Barbara Stewart enlisted the services of the Sarjeant Gallery in Whanganui, to assist in the storage, management and exhibit of the works in the collection and formed the Trust to ensure its ongoing care and legacy. The Trust is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the collection, ensuring that the collection is exhibited, promoted and accessible to the public and in particular those interested in the arts. The Collection consists of works on paper, painting and archive materials that consist of around 470 items in total.
