Te Tai o Awatea’s vision is for all whānau to experience mauri ora through connection with taonga tuku iho (treasures handed down), and for indigenous knowledge to be preserved for all future generations of Aotearoa. We do this by:Promoting Maoritanga and using the waka as a means to educate people about taonga tuku iho (treasures handed down), such as rongoa, toi maori, mau rakau, waka hourua, maramataka, kapa haka, and navigation by the stars;Supporting education which promotes the knowledge about health, wellbeing and connectedness relating to Maoritanga by organising activities including waka sailing, practicing mau rakau, taonga puoro, toi maori and rongoa; andPromoting the health and wellbeing of tangata whenua by organising activities, holding seminars, workshops and other educational programmes focused on Maoritanga including regarding Te Reo Maori and taonga tuku iho.
