A family/whanau led, licensed early childhood centre. A family co-operative based centre, in a small rural area located on the primary school grounds, where play and learning are valued for children and their whanau. There is one weekly session and we have good links with the primary school. We value that parents are the educators /kaiako and managers of the centre. Members participate in the Playcentre education programme gaining valuable qualifications enabling them to understand children's development and how to support their learning. Te Akau Playcentre empowers families to play and learn alongside their child/ren, we honour Te Tiriti O Waitangi and celebrate people's uniqueness and affirm parents as the first and best educators of their children. We strengthen families and in turn our community is enriched.
