The Marae philosophy is to encourage tangata whenua of all ages to develop pride and participation in all aspects of the development of Tawhiti A Maru. The Marae exists to cater for the social cultural spiritual and economic requirements of its beneficiaries in terms of • Fostering of Whanau/Hapu/Iwi relations • Development of relationships with Whanau/Hapu/Iwi living outside the district • Building inter Hapu relationships and enhancing the meanings of whanaungatanga • Developing relationships with Govt ministries agencies departments in the development of Marae/Whanau/Hapu/Iwi. The purpose of the Charter is to set out the roles, responsibilities and relationships between trustees of Tawhiti A Maru and its beneficiaries, namely, Maori Catholics and Catholics generally of St Peter's Parish, Wairoa, local whanau with whakapapa links to Tawhiti A Maru and/or the whenua it stands on and communities residing in Aotearoa NZ, irrespective of cultural and ethnic diversity.
