The objectives of SFNZ are:
a. To provide support to the Member Societies who support families and whânau of people affected by mental illness and addictions. b. To make the families of people with major mental illness the primary focus and consideration of SFNZ. c. To advocate on matters concerning the well being of people affected by mental illness and addictions. d. To support and promote evidence based treatments and interventions for the treatment of mental illnesses e. To support and promote the provision of quality services to people with mental illness and addictions including the provision of respite care, housing, education, social, leisure and other services.
f. To support research into the causes and treatment of mental illnesses and addictions.
g. To promote information and education programmes to create greater public awareness and understanding within New Zealand of the problems for families and individuals arising from major mental illnesses and
