3.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of the Trust is to facilitate the following:
3.1 Commitment and support of development for Manawhenua of the Ngai Tahu Takiwa as defined in Section 5 and the First Schedule of the Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu Act 1996; as well as development for Other Maori Residents within the South Island; 3.2 Giving effect to the doctrines of Aboriginal Title and their customary rights as confirmed by Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi); 3.3 Objective research about customary and natural resources including customary values (tïkanga) and uses; 3.4 Nation Building so that we may enjoy a peaceable life;
The objects of the Trust are to facilitate research that:
4.1 Maintains the potential of the customary and natural resources to meet the foreseeable needs of future generations in the takiwa of Ngai Tahu; 4.2 Ensures the long term viability of the customary and natural resources is maintained and sustained by customary knowledge and through the best information
