About Punawhakaata Ki Oruanui Charitable Trust

Ngati Te Rangiita ki Oruanui are a hapu with mana whenua in the Oruanui area, and are kaitaki of all the natural physical and resources over their traditional rohe, including the Oruanui geothermal field. In June 2008 Contact Energy was seeking to develop a 220 mW geothermal station on the Oruanui geothermal field. A cultural Impact Assessment was required and the Trust was established to adminster the mitigation of funds on behalf of Ngati Te Rangiita ki Oruanui in this regard.
