The purposes and aims of the Trust are to apply both capital and income of the Trust to any charitable purposes within New Zealand which are from time to time selected by the Trustees and are valid charitable purposes. Without limiting this in any way, such purposes may included: Providing guidance, advice, assistance, comfort, support and relief to, and to care for, the families of mine workers involved in fatal mine related accidents; Advocating for and encouraging, developing and coordinating improved health and safety standards in mines and other work places on the West Coast and throughout New Zealand; Furthering the educational, health, welfare and employment opportunities of miners and their families on the West Coast of New Zealand. The way in which the Trust achieves the Charitable Purposes are (subject to the terms of the Trust Deed) to be entirely within the discretion of the Board of Trustees.
