About Parenting for Men Charitable Trust
Our vision has been to develop effective interventions, models, and systems which permanently shift the short and long term trajectories of all members of the family, and in particular the children. In terms of Maori, this can be described as shifting the course of a waka (canoe). A small deviation early in the course of a whanau’s long term journey can lead to a large change in where that individual and whanau waka end up. A vital part of our practice model is that if we can build a strong trusting effective relationship with an individual and his/her family, we can then support them to explore, unpack, and remove stressors and barriers, and build on strengths to improve wellbeing for the whole family.
We deliver parenting skills, anger management, trauma recovery paths, conflict resolution skills, and violence cessation skills, in particular to those whanau at high risk of harm, and in particular to fathers and men, but including mums/partners and wider whanau.
