Maatua Whangai was established in Taumarunui in 1983 and was incorporated as Hinengakau Maatua Whangai Trust in 1995 under the Charitable Trust Act 1957 and is now registering with the Charities Commission under the Charities Act 2005. Its role is to provide support and assistance to whanau/families of Te Kuiti, Taumarunui, Ohakune and Raetihi.
