The Friends of Waikawau Bay Trust was formed in 1990 to plant trees and erect protective fencing at Waikawau Bay Campground. Also the development and establishment of the Matamatahahakeke walkway. Over a period of 30 years the Trust maintained the walkway through working bees held each year in november. At present the Trust is in recess.
