About Family Mental Health Support Incorporated
Family Mental Health Support Inc. (FAMHS) is an independent community, non-government organisation established to provide support, advocacy and education for the families and whanau of people affected by mental illness and addiction. FAMHS provides nurse led one-to-one family support. Through education and support, FAMHS nurses assist families to understand their family member's illness, and how they can best support them in their recovery, whilst maintaining their own wellness. This is essential for promoting and maintaining healthy communities. The service is free, confidential, mobile and recovery focused. FAMHS nurses have a reputation for delivering excellent support and have built a strong and co-operative relationship with Te Whatu Ora, South Canterbury Mental Health and Addiction Services. FAMHS aims to provide greater community awareness and understanding of mental illness by providing education on request to all sectors of the community.
