To advance education by fostering, maintenance, promotion, advancement and development of New Zealand painters and for their better fulfillment by: granting an annual arts award to emerging painters, such awards being for the purpose of sponsoring, encouraging and supporting the education and development of the skills of emerging painters, including (but not confined to) the awarding of grants for study both in New Zealand and overseas; and to be beneficial to the community by increasing the public's understanding and appreciation of the visual arts and, in particular, raising public awareness of the works of painters selected or shortlisted for awards through exhibitions.
