About Estate John Blair
The late John Blair died in 1913 leaving the residue of his Estate in perpetuity to pay, from the net annual income, a number of named Scholarships and Bursaries to Dunedin schools and the Otago University. In addition a share was set aside for payment towards the salary of a lecturer on music at Otago University or if any surplus arose from the absence of an appointment of a lecturer and application towards the other objects, then to the purchase of paintings for the Otago Art Society.
The objects have been provided in order of prioritisation, if the income is insufficient to fund all six Scholarships, Bursaries and purposes.
