The Belfast Community Trust was established through the generosity of John Powell in 2005, to create a lasting benefit for the residents of the suburb of Belfast in Christchurch. where he has been a resident for many years.
The aims of the trust are to provide funds that benefit the residents of the rapidly growing Belfast community, in Christchurch, and the trustee may consider: - The relief of poverty; - The relief of the aged, sick, disabled and disadvantaged; - The advancement of education; - The advancement of religion; - The encouragement of skill, industry and thrift; - Or any other charitable purposes beneficial to the residents of Belfast.
The trustee will not fund; - Operational costs i.e. wages and salaries for staff of organisations making applications; - Charitable endeavors outside the defined boundary of Belfast; - Distributions which are available from other organisations e.g. Ministry of Education and Christchurch City Council - Sporting organisations and clubs
