The Family Centre, Anglican Social Services (Hutt Valley) Trust Board was established in 1979 and was a pioneer in providing family therapy in Aotearoa/New Zealand. The Family Centre now works in the areas of family therapy, community development, education, social policy research and international development. The mission and objectives of the Family Centre are set out in its constitution and are defined as providing services for the strengthening of family life and the provision of culturally based counselling and therapeutic services; providing cultural and gender based services in family and community development work; advocating for justice with particular reference to the prevention of discrimination against women and cultural groups; and the prevention of all forms of poverty.
