Adoption First Steps

Adoption First Steps provides services to prepare, educate and assess New Zealand residents who wish to adopt children residing in State or other care overseas. It's mission is to create well prepared families for inter country adoption so they can provide a safe and loving family environment and to assess Prospective Adoptive Parents (PAPs) for suitability. Activities: AFS provides Prospective Adoptive Parents with information around the requirements for New Zealand residents to adopt from overseas eg the process, eligibility criteria and requirements, countries from which they may adopt and considerations regarding the challenges and rewards around overseas adoptions. Should Prospective Adoptive Parents want to proceed using AFS services, AFS assists with the documentation required and provides the necessary education and assessment services for them to be able to seek the necessary New Zealand Government approval.
