The object of the CIO is to advance, for the public benefit, such charitable purposes (according to the law of England and Wales) as the charity trustees see fit from time to time, in particular but not limited to: (a) making grants and giving financial assistance to support the relief of those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other social and economic disadvantage. and (b) making grants and giving financial assistance to support the work of charities and other organisations which relieve the charitable needs of current and former employees and volunteers of blue light services and their dependants, “blue light services” meaning the fire service, ambulance service, police and HM Coastguard and services ancillary thereto and any successor to any of those services.
