1 The organisation’s purposes are: (a) To advance citizenship and community development of Vatersay by: Providing recreational facilities and organise recreational activities by: • Managing, maintaining and developing the community hall and surrounding land for community use. • Maintaining the children’s playpark. • Promoting the wellbeing of community members without bias • Encouraging and nurturing the cultural identity of Vatersay. (b) To advance environmental protection and improvement by: • Protecting the local natural environment, such as the machair meadows. • We work closely with the local crofters for fencing areas that need protection such as the fragile dunes. • Placing signage in appropriate places to control off road parking. • Protecting and maintaining historically significant memorial sites, such as the Annie Jane Memorial and the Catalina Memorial. • Maintaining areas such as tourist parking and wild camping areas, and monitoring the impact of tourists locally.
