The objects of the Company are to promote any charitable purpose for the benefit of the community in the Civil Parish of Eskdalemuir (referred, to as 'the Community') and in particular: 4.1 To promote sustainable development within the Community, where 'sustainable development' means development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, and which protects or improves the natural environment. 4.2 To provide recreational facilities and organise recreational activities in the interests of social welfare, available to members of the Community arid the public at large, with the object of improving their conditions of life. 4.3 To advance environmental protection or improvement through the maintenance, improvement or provision of public amenities and through the preservation of buildings and sites of historic, architectural or other importance to the Community. 4.4 To advance education and in particular to promote opportunities for learning, for the benefit of members of the Community and the general public. 4.5 To advance education through the promotion of the arts and culture. 4.6 To relieve poverty through the provision of training or retraining, particularly amongst unemployed people in the Community, and through the provision of skills and work experience which will assist in obtaining employment. 4.7 To promote and protect the wellbeing and physical health of the members of the Community. 4.8 To provide or assist in the provision of housing for people in necessitous circumstances within the Community, provided that such power shall not extend to relieving any local authorities or other bodies of a statutory duty' to. provide or improve housing.'
