3. This clause shall be interpreted as if it incorporated an over-riding qualification limiting the powers of the Centre such that any activity which would otherwise be permitted by the terms of the clause may be carried on only if that activity furthers a purpose which is regarded as charitable for the purposes of section 505 of the Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1988 and the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 (including any statutory amendment or re-enactment for the time being in force). Subject to that overriding qualification, the Centre's objects are: 3.1 To promote the benefit ofthe inhabitants of Haddington and the neighbourhood thereof (hereinafter called 'the area of benefit') without distinction of age, ability, sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by:- 3.1.1 bringing together in association the said inhabitants and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and health. and 3.1.2 providing a meeting place and other facilities within the area of benefit for the purposes of social welfare, recreation and.leisure time occupations in order to improve the conditions of life for the inhabitants.
