3.1 The purposes of the SCIO are:- 3.1.1 the advancement of Catholic education and the Catholic religion through the giving of financial support to archiving, educational and other projects at provincial, diocesan or parish level connected to the heritage and cultural life of the Catholic Church in Scotland and beyond, including: (a) projects which are aimed at or connected to the history, ethos and culture of the Catholic Church and the Catholic Faith. (b) projects in support of the management, preservation and care of archives and collections including through archival museums or other similar facilities. (c) research which is being carried out into archives and collections, or through the use of archives and collections, with the intention of furthering Catholic education or the Catholic religion generally as an outcome of that research. (d) the awarding of grants to other charities with similar purposes including in particular The Columba Trust. and (e) such other charitable purposes as are analogous to the foregoing, in the Trustees' discretion.
