For payment from the remainder of said rents of annuities of not less than TEN POUNDS or exceeding the sum of TWENTY POUNDS in any one case to such persons as the said firm, as Trustees foresaid, may in their absolute discretion deem the most eligible to widows and unmarried daughters not under sixty years of age while they remain unmarried and continue to reside in Hawick or the surrounding district within a radius of 5 miles or thereby, who, through no fault of their own or of these whose duty it is to make provision for them are in necessitous circumstances, a preference being given to deserving indigent widows and daughters of natives of Hawick, or of persons who have resided not less than twenty five years in Hawick, not more than one member of a family being eligible at the same time.
