About Nowruz Scotland

(a) to advance the arts, culture, and heritage by promoting Nowruz and the traditions, languages, music, food, customs, and creative and artistic expression -- including storytelling, craft, and documentary and creative media -- of countries that celebrate Nowruz and other communities in Aberdeen, for the benefit of the public in Aberdeen and beyond. (b) to advance community development and social inclusion by supporting new Scots and minority ethnic communities in Aberdeen and Scotland to integrate into local life, build social connections, develop skills and confidence -- including through training, mentoring, and creative or vocational activity -- access services and opportunities, and participate fully in civic, economic, and community life. (c) to relieve the isolation, hardship, and disadvantage experienced by newly arrived and marginalised communities in Aberdeen, including through practical support, advice, befriending, signposting to and coordination with statutory and voluntary services on matters such as housing, healthcare, education, and welfare, orientation and welcome support for new arrivals, and the provision of safe, welcoming community spaces. (d) to advance education and promote intercultural understanding by providing opportunities for people of all backgrounds, including children and young people, to learn about the histories, languages, traditions, and contributions of all communities in Aberdeen and Scotland -- including through school's outreach, public events, and media and creative storytelling -- fostering mutual respect and reducing prejudice. (e) to advance the health and wellbeing of new Scots and minority community members by supporting their mental and emotional health, social confidence, and sense of belonging, through creative, cultural, and community activities and, where appropriate, in partnership with health and wellbeing organisations. (f) to organise and deliver an annual public Nowruz Festival in Aberdeen, including associated public communications and engagement to promote the festival, welcoming people of all backgrounds to participate in and celebrate Nowruz as a shared occasion that reflects Aberdeen's diverse and international community.
