(a) to advance and promote the education of the general public, and in particular the inhabitants of Scotland, without distinction of sex or of political, religious or other opinions, by stimulating the public interest in the life, poetry and work of Robert Burns and by associating voluntary organisations, local authorities and other bodies of whatever status. (b) to provide for the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
