Himalayan Safety Organisation’s (HSO) purpose is to provide disaster response and search and rescue for victims of disaster across the Himalayan regions especially in remote mountainous regions, without regard to race, religion, caste, gender, economic circumstance or political persuasion. HSO will, a) maintain and resource the continuous professional development of a pool of highly skilled and qualified inter-agency and organisation safety experts who will be equipped to be the first responders and search and rescue specialists to disasters across Nepal. b) foster, develop and maintain a network of relationships and protocols with emergency response agencies in Nepal, in order to optimise the national emergency and disaster response capacity. c) develop the capacity for international deployment for disaster response throughout the greater Himalayas. d) contribute to the international knowledge base about best practice in disaster risk reduction and disaster response. e) foster, educate and improve the knowledge, skills and understanding of families and communities in remote mountainous regions and/ or communities at risk of natural hazards, through support programmes for community response to disasters, disaster risk reduction and sustainable processes and practices, to mitigate the impact of natural hazards and make communities resilient. f) foster, develop and support programmes that enable communities to achieve fulfilling, sustainable and secure lifestyles, in harmony and understanding with their neighbours and environment locally and further afield.
