4 The SCIO’s purposes are: 4.1 To prevent or relieve poverty. 4.2 To advance and improve physical, emotional and mental health. 4.3 To advance citizenship and community development through volunteering and co-operation between community organisations. 4.4 To provide respite facilities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the people for whom the facility is intended. 4.5 To provide relief to those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. through the provision of short respite breaks in a manner which is consistent with the ethos and principles of the co-operative model.
