Youtheatre Movement (YTM) has three primary programs: Community Events Live Productions Workshops Community Events: Although the 3rd annual StoryFest was postponed significant progress was made in redesigning its structure including new rules processes and event protocols. Live Productions: In 2024 Youtheatre Movement produced two live theatrical productions: Handcuffed (May 2024) and From Now to Then (November 2024). 'Handcuffed' was staged at the Waterfront Theatre and subsequently toured to 10 schools across British Columbia. Staying true to Youtheatre’s mandate of addressing pressing social issues—such as dementia abduction and racism—this production focused on the ongoing Public Health Emergency related to opioid overdose in BC. As with most of Youtheatre’s issue-driven plays a comprehensive Resource PlayBook was developed for educators and students. Distributed to all 11 participating schools it included character analysis discussion prompts and access to relevant support services. Additionally a TalkBack Forum was held after each performance engaging over 4 000 attendees in dialogue connecting the themes of the play to real-world concerns about addiction public health and systemic challenges. 'From Now to Then' served explored themes of personal evolution and societal transformation through the symbolic personas of Queen Boudica Sir Walter Raleigh and William Shakespeare. This existential tragicomedy aimed to inspire audiences toward growth self-awareness and courage. Workshops: YTM facilitated several workshops during the 'Handcuffed' and 'From Now To Then' productions where we helped our cast strengthen their skills and talents to tell their story with distinction. In addition guest director Claire Fogal led a series of developmental workshops integral to the rehearsal process for From Now to Then.
