Yellowknife Women'S Society

Program 1 -we operate an emergency shelter for women in yellowknife and provide housing and support services to members of the community experiencing homelessness and poverty including women escaping family violence. T program 2 - we provide families with information on proper nutrition early childhood development healthy recreation parenting skills and positive family relationships. Program 3 - we distribute food donations to individuals and families experiencing poverty. Program 4 - a street outreach safe ride program to protect the safety of homeless individuals experiencing addiction; who would otherwise be on the streets of yellowknife. Program 5 - we have a 25 room supportive living housing program. This program includes housing food 24/7 support staff and programming and a managed alcohol program. Program 6 - we operate 2 daycare centres which provide safe and nurturing environments for children and allow opportunities to strengthen families. Program 7 - program supports homeless individuals with work opportunities including outdoor work maintenance work and general labor positions. 1) we are in the process of expanding our supportive living program from 28 unites to 42.we are also planning to bring back a supportive work program. 2) we are in the process of transisitioning the 2 daycare centres to operate independently of the society.
