About Working Gear Clothing Society
Working gear community shop program: working gear provides work related clothing and footwear free of charge to individuals re-entering the workforce from a shop located in the downtown east side of vancouver. Many of our clients are faced with the challenge of securing costly clothing safety gear and footwear prior to starting the job. As a result clients are faced with the dilemma of either passing up the job and remaining unemployed. The shop is staffed with one full-time employee and volunteers and is open five days a week. Many of our clients have been unemployed for long periods and lack the finances to afford the clothing needed to find a job. We provide clothing including suits business casual attire as well as construction appropriate clothing and steel toed work boots. Our clients are currently unemployed ready to work and get referred to us through community referral agencies. Barbershop program: five days a week working gear offers free hair services in our purpose-built barbershop which is staffed by professional volunteer barbers. Access to free hair services is vital for self-esteem and personal confidence as our clients navigate their employment journey. Hair service appointments are referred to through our community referral agencies. Community clothing program: working gear receives surplus donations each month from our community and corporate donors. This surplus of donations is shared once a month with the public at community clothing pop-up events. These eventsare open to the public and promoted through various channels
