Wmiyeten Nature Sanctuary Society

1) conservatioin and maintenance of the natural features of the sanctuary 2) ecosystem restoration. 3) educational nature walks weaving in knowledge of the sanctuary's indigenous and natural features/history 4) kinship to the land a) supporting wsane youth elders and families to reconnect to the land after 135 years of separation. B) providing opportunities for ecocultural restoration education citizen-science research and capacity-building in indigenous communities c) 'conservation-cultivating a true relationshp to the land'. Relationship building with a core gathering of local protectors of the land from the settler community with 15 wsane elders. 5) kinship mapping-listening to theland project a) a portion of a larger wsane centered indigenous kinship mapping project focused on plant medicine. B) wsane elders share place-based oral histories teaching about (w)holistic interdependence of plants animals humans and ecosystems. This work supports healthy aging by bringing elders/seniors together out onto the land increasing cultural knowledge and boosting seniors' mental and physical well-being.
