West End-Coal Harbour Community Policing Centre

(1) community engagement: pop-ups in public venues at which safety devices and info brochures are distributed; safety and crime prevention presentations to groups and businesses projects to improve community safety such as community clean-ups bike registrations car-seat installation training and graffiti removal; providing safety and crime-reduction info through social media platforms; supporting community events through volunteer support (e.g. Staffing barricades at runs). (2) victim information services: through our storefront office volunteers provide tips referrals and resources (saftey devices and brochures) to the public handle lost-and-found items; assist the public in making police reports and perform wellness checks on people experiencing homelessness. (3) citizen patrols: foot and bike patrols which engage questions from the community report vandalism and graffiti to the city visit merchants and report back concerns to our neighbourhood police officer and perform wellness checks on unhoused individuals. Volunteers also support police and icbc by doing speed watches cell watches and sidewalk safrty watches. Our programming is done through two staff and approximately 130 volunteers.
