Vso School of Music Society

Opened in 2011 the vso school of music is a community music school serving a mission to enrich lives through the joy of learning playing and performing the world's great music; to make these experiences accessible to all regardless of ability playing level or economic circumstances; and to nurture creative and engaged members of society through achievement in the musical arts. The school offers on-to-one and group instruction and classes in classical jazz and world music for students from the age of 3 months to adult learners catering to all ability levels from beginners to aspiring professionals. The school's largest cohort of students are in the 0-6 year old age range in its flagship mini music makers program. The school's highest level string ensemble sinfoniette made up of 25 young string players ages 13-18 performs regularly across vancouver and beyond. Programs take place throughout the traditional school year (sep - jun) and are enhanced by spring break and summer programming. The school has 125 contracted faculty members and has served nearly 1 600 students annually. In 2016 the school developed and launched a new traditional chinese music program the only program of its kind in canada offered by a community music school. The school also has outdoor family classes in parks across the lower mainland online lessons and classes across all areas of programming harp masterclass jazz improvisation masterclass technology for music creatots.
