Vinok Folkdance Society

The organization supports the programming of Vinok Worldance a company of professional dancers and musicians who perform dance and music from many cultures from around the world including those unique to Canada. Celebrating the cultural diversity of our country Vinok offers theatre and educational programming to our local community as well as occasional presentations throughout Canada and abroad. Locally our annual production 'Christmas Around the World' has become an annual Yuletide tradition for Edmontonians as each year we offer a new program with different countries. In similar fashion we also have an annual 'Mardi Gras' event to celebrate Carnival and in June of 2024 added a new annual 'A Mystical Midsummer' celebrating summer solstice traditions from around the globe. Vinok continues to offer its educational programs. We created a new program 'A Mystical Midsummer'. Along the same lines as Christmas Around the World this production featured a host who shared anecdotes about midsummer traditions around the globe. This new production included a collaboration with local Dnipro Ukrainian Choir with new choreography performed to songs sung by the choir. Vinok also performed for Dnipro's concert in the same month. We continue to work on our program for home schooled students - currently offering a weekly dance class for young dancers and are resuming a training program for interested performers in the New Year.
