About Veterans Association Food Bank
Food hampers - veterans are eligible for a food hamper (appx $450 worth of food) once a month. Along with the food hamper we also include a $100 grocery gift card to allow the veteran to purchase fresh meats evac (emergency veterans assistance costs) - the evac program provides financial assistance to ensure veterans are able to keep the lights on. This program is meant to ease the financial burden of unexpected events (vehicle breakdowns funeral costs uncovered medical expenses job loss). The evac program can also accessed for help with damage deposits and first month's rent for veterans getting in off the street. Peer support outreach - the peer support outreach program provides veterans particularly ones who have difficulties leaving their homes with someone to check in on them and make sure they do not feel forgotten. This program has become very important through the covid pandemic as many veterans have lost their social connections and/or have had mental health conditions worsened by they imposed isolation. This program also helps facilitate transportation to medical appointments assistance with household upkeep support with vac claims and access to a fellow brother/sister in arms. Pet care promise - the pet care promise program provides assistance to veterans with pets and service animals. The program ensures that each pet receives basic care (food shots grooming).
