Vancouver Summer Mentorship Society

This year the vancouver summer mentorship society sucessfully ran the law bootcamp program at the peter a. Allard school of law at the university of british columbia. In total we hosted 25 highschool students from the surrey school district among others. Seminars and activities in this year's program included an orientation to the canadian legal system criminal law aboriginal law constitutional law human rights law mediation excercises immigration and refugee law buisness law labour and employment law tort law environmental law intellectual property law video game law a seminar on the process of becomming a law student and a lawyer a tour of the bc supreme court and bc court of appeal a law firm tour and a mentorship luncheon with the highschool students and young lawyers practicing in vancouver. In the past fiscal year the society's directors have continued to mentor alumni of the program as they: (1) progress through their undergraduate studies (2) prepare to take the law school admission test (3) look for law-related volunteer or employment opportunities to enhance the quality of their law school admission applications and (4) progress through law school.the society is also happy to report that in the past fiscal year an alumnus of the program was admitted to the peter a. Allard school of law at the university of british columbia and is expected to graduate from law school in 2027.
