Vancouver Parks and Recreation Foundation

The vancouver parks and recreation foundation was not active in 2024. The foundation continues to seek necessary start up requirements to operationalize including obtaining seed funding from its parent organization the vancouver board of parks and recreation (park board) which operates as a business unit for the city of vancouver. The park board is actively seeking founding board members whose role would be to provide organizational leadership for the foundation to operationalize and secure seed funding to initiate fundraising activities. The parent organization (park board) was not in a position to fully support the advancement of the foundation since december 2023 where city of vancouver council adopted a resolution requesting legislative amendments to the vancouver charter from the government of bc that would transition the governance of parks and recreation services in vancouver from a separate elected park board to the elected city council. While the province of bc has not enacted charter amendments the provincial government has reaffirmed its commitment at a future date. Current operational planning toward a governance transition will pause unitl a decision has been made. In the meantime the park board will continue to follow through on its plans to operationalize the foundation.
