About Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society
Vancouver aboriginal friendship centre society's vision is to create a thriving self-sustaining culturally-based urban aboriginal community. The society provides programs in health welfare social services human rights culture education recreation and equality for all genders of aboriginal people of all age groups. Other programs include: 1. Recreation designed to provide sport and leisure activities for aboriginal youth between the ages of 6-29 years. 2. Elder's program provides a nourishing environment for elders to apply and maintain tranditional practices in a social environment. 3. Urban aboriginal representative (family support) serves both status and non-status aboriginal families who reside off the reserve in the greater vancouver regional district area offering guidance case consultations in child protection court assistance counselling support material and human resource referrals and other preventative social services. 4. Family place provides healthy supportive environment to the whole family learning new lifeskill tools and access valuable resouces. 5. Aboriginal shelter is a program open to all cultures on a first come first serve basis. The space is offered to 100 clients who receive mat and blanket as well as dinner and breakfast.
