WFNS fosters creative writing and the profession of writing in the Province of Nova Scotia; provides advice and assistance to writers at all stages of their careers; encourages greater public recognition of Nova Scotian writers and their achievements; and enhances the literary arts in our regional and national culture. Mentorship Program: Intensive hands-on opportunity intended to provide a disciplined and focused period of work during which developing writers my stretch and hone their craft in a supportive environment. Writers in the Schools Program: Pairing Nova Scotian writers and schools in all areas of the province to foster the craft of writing. Summer Camps: Writing instruction through week-long camps for youth Workshops: Offering workshops aimed at all levels of writers in a variety of genres. Awards and Competitions: - J.M. Abraham Poetry Award - Evelyn Richardson Non-Fiction Award - Thomas Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award - Maxine Tynes Nova Scotia Poetry Award - Elizabeth Venart Prize - Senator Don Oliver Black Voices Prize - Charles R. Saunders Award Jampolis Cottage Residency Program: Providing sponsored residencies for writers self-directed residency space for paying writers and groups gathering space for writers and writing organizations There were no new programs introduced during this fiscal year.
