The Waterdown-East Flamborough Heritage Society

Our online presence continued to grow with new content added daily to our Facebook and Instagram pages. Website content was added to and updated on a weekly basis with new material added regarding the Archives holdings heritage buildings and photographs. We were able to hold our monthly public meetings via Zoom and in person and had a fantastic turnout for our 8 meetings. The Archives was open on a full time basis 5 days a week and continued to answer over 1000 queries coming in through personal visits phone email Contact Us and Facebook. Our Summer student was able to complete work on 8 Heritage Papers which were published in our monthly newsletter and a co-op student was able to add to our online photo database and general information clipping files. Over 7000 photos can now be searched via keyword. Three new panel display units were created and placed in the library for public viewing. A large exhibit honouring the volunteer fire fire fighters of the five fire stations in Flamborough was open to the public for 4 months and a separate exhibit detailing the 100th anniversary of one of the fire halls was on display at the local library.+ To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Society memories and reminiscences were gathered from local residents. Along with stories from the local newspaper this will form the basis of a commemorative book. Due to the cyber attack on the City of Hamilton in February 2024 we were unable to access our files and the archives was not open for several weeks curtailing out ability to research and provide help to the public.
