About The Walnut Foundation
1. The Foundation holds monthly information awareness sessions where medical and other health professionals are invited to discuss health issues affecting men. The sessions are usually 3 hours and are held 9 times a year. In addition we hold an annual Prostate Cancer conference which attracts over 300 attendees and an Annual Symposium on Health issues affecting the Black Community. 2a. The Foundation is invited by Corporate Community Church and other groups to present on Prostate Cancer issues that affect black men and the importance of getting checked early. We hold approximately 10 presentations per year. 2b. We share our experiences as Prostrate Cancer survivors and encourage men to take responsibility for their health and well being. 1. We collaborate with Major prostate cancer researchers on research projects affecting Black men and Prostate cancer. This past year we were collaborators or Principal Investigators on three research projects. 2. We are offering free blood PSA (prostate specific antigen) tests to the black community in partnership with Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and community health centres. This is being done in pop-up clinics.
