About The Vancouver Community Network
The Vancouver Community Network (VCN) is a member-run non profit established to support and sustain individuals groups and non-government organizations with social aims. We provide free internet dial-up access to the general public as well as free/low cost technical and website development & support computer training and web-hosting for members non-profits and societies. VCN has administered a number of government and community programs including the Community Access Program (CAP) fro Metro Vancouver. We have run the train-the-trainer educational workshops. In 2021-22 we continued to deliver the Digital Skills for Youth (DS4Y) program for Innovation Sciences and Social Development Canada as well as the he Street Messaging System. This system uses text messaging to alert those experiencing/struggling with poverty addictions and homelessness about opportunities in their region for food shelter jobs/training harm reduction and community events. We have modified this to use exclusively for newcomers (immigrant and refugee claimants) which works across Canada called Newcommer.info. in 2024 We began offering support and delivery of the New Horizon's Digital Skills for Seniors. The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is a federal grants and contributions program. It provides funding for projects that make a difference in the lives of seniors and in their communities. Program objectives Promote volunteerism among seniors and other generations Engage seniors in the community through the mentoring of others Expand awareness of elder abuse including financial abuse Support the social participation and inclusion of seniors Provide capital assistance for new and existing community projects and programs for seniors
