The vancouver art gallery is a public art museum that showcases primarily contemporary works by bc canadian and international artists. As in prior years the gallery presents both touring exhibitions as well as exhibitions focused on the gallery's permanent collection. Ongoing programs include those for young people such as the making place spring'summer camps school programs and teen art group as well as those for the public such as talks/lectures performances and tours. The gallery's exhibitions for fiscal year 2024 include parviz tanavoli; conceptions of white; emily carr: a room of her own; denyse thomasos: just beyond; rooted here: woven from the land; j.e.h. Macdonald? A tangled garden; horizons; lawrence weiner; and copy machine manifestos. The offsite project featured work by pedro reyes. New programming included the launch of 1:1 artist selects which invited renowned artists to select a work from the gallery's collection to be displayed in dialogue with their own work; as well as community access tours where vulnerable groups in the community are invited for a free tour of exhibitions on tuesdays when the gallery is closed and can offer guests a low-sensory environment.
