About The Trustees of the Onslow Cemetery
The grounds of the cemetery were regularly mowed and kept in good condition for visitors. To assist with grounds maintenance a bush cutter was purchased along with the necessary safety equipment for our volunteers to use. The Policies and Procedures were updated to include more specific guidelines on urn size. This was communicated in the annual 2024 Newsletter. The placement of glass containers etc as 'decoratives' has been an ongoing safety issue for the individuals mowing and maintaining the grounds. New policies were adopted and communicated to keep personnel safe and yet allow families to honour their loved ones with decoratives on top of headstones. In addition there have been gaps identified in the early years of the burial records of this cemetery that was established in 1763. Considerable research at the local history museum and cross-tabulation was done to ensure the database is a complete as possible. This is an ongoing program.
